historical security council

The Security Council is one of the five main organs of the United Nations. It is the body in charge of international peace and security. In 1977 it has fifteen members, five permanent members (China, France, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America) and ten non-permanent members, elected by the General Assembly for a period of two years. The permanent members have the power of veto

TOPIC A: Condor Operation

The Condor Operation is a clandestine mission carried out by the right-winged presidencies, backed by their clandestine squads, to overthrown and eradicate any idea of left-wing ideologies, uprisings, movements and any kind of belligerency linked with such ideals.

The movement started back in 1968 as an idea to simply minimize the idea of communism and its influence in the rising South America, however later on turned into a symbolism of torture, extremist oppression and right-wing radicalism in different countries. The first to boost this ideal operation was the United States of America and their Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) helping involvement in diverse anti-communist movements in Latin America.

Nevertheless it wasn’t until the 70’s the Operation went crucial since it already made a relevant impact within the Latin American countries; Since the communist ideology was in the rising, we expect no left-winged country could intervene to balance the people’s will, and it’s the Security Council’s duty to intervene to ensure peace within countries and citizens.

TOPIC B: Dirty war

From roughly 1974, a period of state terrorism began to grow exponentially in Argentina (especially after the 1976 Coup), this adapted the name of “Dirty War” or “Process of National Reorganization”, name given by the country’s Military Government. The systematic violence unleashed by the security forces and the right-wing death squads (in the form of an anticommunist Alliance denominated “Triple A”) have taken the life of many men, women and infants involved with the left-wing ideology in a set of kidnappings, tortures, rapes and other acts of terror.

When the Argentine Military Junta took over the political power they implemented measures to eradicate opposition and communist ideas. As a result, the ERP or the “Marxist People's Revolutionary Army” and the MPM or the “Montoneros” were considered the biggest thread, therefore, the most important targets, receiving constant acts of aggression by the hand of the government and security forces, threatening the nation's peace.
